Hi, I’m Michelle.
Owner and principal interior designer of MJ Designs. I’ve been doing this for 28 years, and I have a process that leads us to the best outcome.
Where I come from
St. Pete, three generations deep
My family has called St. Petersburg home for three generations. I earned my design degree at the University of Florida’s College of Architecture and started out in commercial design. Then I worked with interior design firms in the region.
In 2004 I opened MJ Designs. New to town? I’ll fill you in on St. Pete past and present: the historic neighborhoods, the restaurants and boutiques, the museums and art, even the schools.
How I work
We get personal
Where do you like to vacation? What music do you love? How do you take your coffee? I get to know everything about you. Why? Your home should support you and make you feel good every day.
My one word is balance. My niche is warm minimalism. Expressive, not excessive. Art often starts the project. I’ve made the mistakes already, so I’m honest about what works and what to avoid. It’s easier than you think. You’ll have fun! Trust the process, trust the process, trust the process.
Big renovations, small details
Whole-house and condo renovations, where I rework the interior so it flows better. I love space planning and interior architecture, right down to the drafted floor plans and elevations. Downtown, two condos became one: we removed every wall and started from the structural columns.
Historic homes, too. I work to preserve the architectural style, so the outside is cohesive with the inside. Furniture is included, down to the small details. And I love clients who trust me. When our taste in art lines up, even better. That doesn’t always happen.
